Tasty, Nourishing Brunch at Hermanas Martínez, Alicante
I had just wrapped up a quiet week off and was heading back to work and city life the next day. What I needed was simple: a good chat with a good friend… and something nourishing to eat.
But it started with the coffee.
Peruvian, rich and smooth, served in a beautiful ceramic cup—no need for extras. And then there was the water. Already on the table, in a proper jug. That might sound small, but in Alicante, where tap water isn’t exactly drinkable and cafés often charge for tiny bottles, it’s something I really notice. I grew up with some of the best tap water in the world—free, clean, effortless—so these thoughtful details matter. They speak of care.
It set the tone for everything that followed.
The Meal That Held Space
The place is small—elegant, simple, with beautiful touches. Nothing overdone, just a quiet sense that every detail has been chosen with care. We were lucky to get a table.
My friend had a fresh salmon wrap; I chose the huevos shakshuka with seed bread—nourishing, balanced, exactly what I needed. The flavours were deep but not heavy. Everything felt considered.
Over coffee, we talked about how hard it is to truly switch off. Even after several days of holiday, my mind was still in work mode. I said out loud what we were both thinking: one week just isn’t enough. Especially for those of us with high creative energy—and for mums. That constant drive to produce, care, solve, support... it’s easy to get tangled up in it.
Naming it—without needing to fix it—felt like a release.
That conversation stayed with me. It reminded me that for some of us, rest doesn’t come naturally. It’s something we have to practice. Something we need to create space for—and learn to inhabit fully.
More Than a Brunch Spot
Hermanas Martínez held space for all of that. It wasn’t just the food—it was the way the place allowed for quiet honesty. Nothing rushed, nothing showy. Just a setting where it felt safe to slow down and be real.
Their philosophy is clear without needing to be declared: food that supports how you want to feel. Their menu adapts easily—gluten-free, low-carb, vegetarian—but what really matters is how well it's done. Seasonal, thoughtful.
It’s not just a brunch café, it’s a food atelier. They also offer cooking workshops and themed gatherings—everything rooted in the values they live by. It shows.
I left feeling clearer. Happier. There’s nothing quite like sharing food in a beautiful space, with someone who sees you.
It was exactly what I needed to return to busy-bee life.
And without question, I’ll be back.
