A Michelin Moment Worth Repeating: Nacho Sellés in Cocentaina

We had planned a weekend escape in Vall de Gallinera and wanted to make the return journey special as well — so we set out to find a truly good place to eat along the way.

That’s how we came across Natxo Sellés Restaurant, proudly holding a Michelin star — more precisely, it has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a Sol Repsol, both recognising quality, authenticity and value. It immediately caught our attention.

Cocentaina, just 19 km from Vall de Gallinera and about 59 km from Alicante, is a town that breathes quiet, authentic charm. What we didn’t expect was for that meal to become the most memorable moment of the weekend.

Tradition, elevated

Nacho Sellés’ cooking, while recognised by prestigious guides, remains humble, honest, and refreshingly free of trends. This is not a place for spectacle — it’s a place for flavour, soul, and precision.

Each dish reflects a deep respect for local tradition, elevated with care and intention. It’s cooking that doesn’t scream for attention, but gently earns your admiration with every bite.

Surprise, Flavour, and Real Value

I rarely order torreznos, but I let myself be guided — and I’m so glad I did. Non greasy. Perfect. Then came the arroz de raya, a delicate, deeply flavourful rice made with ray fish. A true surprise.

But what truly left me speechless was the price. I’ve been to countless restaurants in Alicante — some beautifully designed, others with ambitious menus — but many fall short in flavour, customer experience… and value. Too often, the experience simply doesn’t justify the cost.

This place is the opposite: thoughtful, high-level cuisine, professional yet warm service, and a final bill that feels almost too modest for what you’ve just experienced. It’s the kind of place that quietly proves that real value still exists — if you know where to look.

I’m already planning my return visit, this time for the arroz de bogavante.

I have to say… Natxo Sellés is not about ticking gourmet boxes. It was a surprise discovery. One I didn’t expect, and one I know I’ll return to.

Like when the waitress carefully cut out the heart from the wine bottle label so I could keep it intact. Small gestures, but the kind you don’t forget.
